Trinity's History

A Message from Pastor Dennis Walker
Pastor Walker is Trinity's contact pastor during our transition.

As the annual Halloween celebrations subside, we now head into the annual "holiday season" in which seven (7) religious communities will have religious observances through mid-January.
Halloween had its roots in pagan religious superstition in Ireland. 31 October was the last day of the pagan calendar. An imagined thick, tough barrier became "thinner" on that night. Spirits of departed persons, especially the evil ones, roamed the landscape. The pagans carved gourds (and later pumpkins) and placed candles inside to ward off these spirits. As Europe became Christian, All Saints Day was moved from May to 01 November to counter these pagan remembrances.

Generosity Update
Legacy Update for the saints
Thank you Joan Downer for an excellent overview of memorials at Trinity and how they have been provided to remember our members of yore.  Also many thanks to Melissa Person for the update on our Trinity Endowment Fund which is open for use.  It was particularly fitting to hear about opportunities on All Saints Sunday when we remember those who have ended the lives of faith as well as those who have been baptized into the faith.
Commitment Sunday is 20 November
On November 20th we plan to celebrate the ongoing Generosity (Stewardship) of you our members with "No Reservations!"    We will also be looking forward to 2017 and your prayerful consideration of your planned giving in response to God's many blessings.  Please review the snail mail package and bring your estimated giving card with you on 20 November.  Thank you for your continued generosity.

What's Going On?
Come to the Luther Room on Sunday, November 20th between worship services or after second service to visit with representatives of EACH of our ministries.  Learn about what they do and how YOU can be a part of any and all the wonderful work our congregation is involved with.

Coffee Hour
Dear Members of Trinity Church

I am writing to express my frustrations over coffee hour in our church. I have not been a member as long as others but the lack of interest in coffee hour has been bothering me.

This Sunday the Evangelism Committee helped the Andersons  Bruce and Marylou serve coffee. We volunteered to help as a committee  because I have witnessed the lack of support Connie is experiencing getting members to cover coffee hour. There is a sign up sheet in the kitchen  and I know she has asked members to volunteer. It seems like the same people keep volunteering. I counted twenty  five people enjoying the coffee hour this past Sunday. Many have never participated. I know the same problem surfaced in my mothers church and due to lack of volunteers  there was no coffee hour for a month. Members left right after service or members just sat around and few members socialized. Coming from a .Catholic background where there are many Masses and members leave right after service the coffee hour at Trinity was one of the many reasons I became a member. It just felt good.Everyone was so friendly and I had the opportunity to meet different members. It has helped me become an active member of Trinity.

Evangelism hoped to get the ball rolling by having committees sponsor a Sunday.Everyone who enjoys this social hour and is able to participate should   make an effort. It would be very sad if it ends . I had to get this off my mind. Thank you for hearing me out.

Alternative Giving Fair - Bakers Needed
Once again we are looking forward to the annual Alternative Giving Fair at Trinity on Sunday 12/11/16.  The baked goods table is a real favorite at the fair and we welcome help from all of the wonderful Trinity bakers.  Ethnic breads and pastries are very popular as well as sweet breads, pies, cookies, and holiday treats.  If you are able to help by providing a baked good to sell, please let us know what you plan to contribute. There is a sign up sheet on the Social Ministry bulletin board in the Luther Room or email Lynn Carlson.

Lego Luther Seal
We had a very successful construction project for Luther's Seal Friday night.  The event was well attended by a Lego-enthusiastic group (more than 30).  The result is on display in the Luther Room.

Many thanks to Larissa Fagundes for arranging the project and ensuring food was there.  Also thanks to Tori Fagundes and Dan Kressin for helping keep us on track and assemble the display.
We had a very dedicated crew of constructors.  The younger crew (2-3rd grade thru 6th grade) was numerous and especially productive.
Great effort and result !!

TLC Transition
During our transitional phase Trinity has several layers of support available.

We have an ELCA appointed contact pastor - Dennis Walker - who can assist as needed. Pastor Walker lives in Amherst, MA and can be here at Trinity if needed for pastoral support.

Beth and the Worship and Music committee have arranged for supply pastors to support our weekly worship through the summer.  Some of the pastors on that list are also available for urgent care.

A call to the Church Office 978-256-6300 or an email to our Parish Administrator, Beth Confrancisco, is always a good start.
Of course our congregational executive committee is also available to respond to questions/inquiries.
